The Charlotte Hornets waived guard Kobi Simmons. Simmons was on a non-guaranteed contract for this upcoming season.

Simmons appeared in five NBA games for the Hornets last season. He had his two-way deal converted to a standard contract in early-April.

In 46 games for the Greensboro Swarm, Charlotte's G League affiliate, Simmons averaged 19.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. Simmons has played three of the last four seasons for the Swarm, with the lone exception being the 2021-22 season when the 6-foot-5 guard played in Poland.

Usman Garuba officially became a free agent after clearing waivers on Wednesday.

The Thunder now have a total of $11.4 million in dead money on their cap sheet for this season for Garuba, Rudy Gay, and TyTy Washington, according to Keith Smith of Spotrac.

The Thunder still have to make three more roster cuts. 

The Dallas Mavericks plan to waive-and-stretch JaVale McGee by the August 31st deadline.

The Mavericks have not officially completed the move in case a trade scenario materializes before the deadline.

McGee signed with the Mavericks during the 2022 offseason on a three-year, $20.1 million deal.

According to Keith Smith of Spotrac, McGee is owed $11,741,621 on the two years remaining on his deal.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have waived Usman Garuba.

The Thunder acquired Garuba in July from the Atlanta Hawks. 

Garuba appeared in 99 games over the past two seasons with the Houston Rockets and averaged 2.8 points and 3.9 rebounds in 12.2 minutes per game. He was selected 23rd overall in the 2021 NBA Draft after playing for Real Madrid, where he received EuroLeague Rising Star honors.

The Oklahoma City Thunder announced on Friday that they have waived guard TyTy Washington Jr. The Thunder will reportedly sign Lindy Waters III to a two-way contract to fill the newly opened roster spot.

Washington was acquired by Oklahoma City in a trade with the Atlanta Hawks this offseason. The Thunder also acquired Usman Garuba, Rudy Gay (since waived) and 2026 second-round pick in exchange for Patty Mills in the deal.

Washington played in 31 games as a rookie with the Houston Rockets last season. He averaged 4.7 points in 14 minutes per game.

Waters has spent the last two seasons with the Thunder. In 41 games last year, he averaged 5.2 points in 12.9 minutes per game.

The Atlanta Hawks have requested waivers on forward Vit Krejci.

Krejci appeared in 29 games with the Hawks during the 2022-23 campaign. He also suited up for the College Park Skyhawks, appearing in three games (all starts), notching 9.0 points, 9.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 33.9 minutes of play (.400 FG%, .333 3FG%).

In two NBA seasons with Atlanta (2022-23) and Oklahoma City (2021-22), the 6-7 forward has seen action in 59 games (eight starts), owning averages of 3.8 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 14.5 minutes (.407 FG%, .311 3FG%, .833 FT%).

The Charlotte Hornets waived Xavier Sneed on Thursday.

Sneed appeared in four games last season, averaging 4.3 points and 1.3 rebounds. 

The Boston Celtics waived Justin Champagnie, sources told Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Champagnie signed a two-year deal with the Celtics last season. His contract was set to be guaranteed for $50,000 if he remained on the roster after today.
