The New York Knicks announced today that the team has signed guard Duane Washington Jr. to a contract.
Washington averaged 7.9 points, 2.0 assists and 1.2 rebounds over 12.7 minutes in 31 games (three starts) last season with the Phoenix Suns. He recorded four 20-point performances during the 2022-23 season, including career highs of 26 points and seven assists in a win at Memphis on Dec. 27.
Josh Hart's contract extension will be in the range of around four years and $75 million, according to Stefan Bondy of New York Daily News.
The contract will reportedly be signed sometime in August.
Bondy adds that Immanuel Quickley will sign a larger contract extension before the October deadline.
Jaylen Nowell is one of the better free agents still on the market. The Dallas Mavericks were rumored to have interest in signing Nowell, but those rumors seem unfounded, according to Marc Stein.
I know there were some recent reports that Jaylen Nowell from Minnesota is a potential target. I was actually told the Mavericks are not really in that race at this point," Stein said. "So, to this point, I would scratch Nowell as a target for the Mavericks, at least that was that’s what I was told yesterday."
Nowell averaged a career-high 10.8 points per game on 45% shooting for the Timberwolves last season.
Goran Dragic and the Miami Heat have held discussions about a deal for his return.
The Heat sent Dragic to the Toronto Raptors in 2021 as part of their deal for Kyle Lowry. Dragic has since played for the Brooklyn Nets, Chicago Bulls and Milwaukee Bucks.
The Heat have remained largely in a holding pattern this offseason while pursuing a trade for Damian Lillard.
The Miami Heat have expressed interest in signing Jamal Cain to a Two-Way contract, but he continues to seek a standard contract.
The Heat gave Cain a qualifying offer, which will allow the Heat to retain him if they choose to.
Cain went undrafted in 2022 out of Oakland before signing a Two-Way in October.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo has agreed to re-sign with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Antetokounmpo had other free agent options, including the New York Knicks.
The Portland Trail Blazers have waived Jeenathan Williams.
Williams averaged 10.6 points in 25.3 minutes over five games last season.
With the NBA's new rules regarding extensions as part of its collective bargaining agreement, OG Anunoby is eligible to sign an extension worth up to $116 million over four seasons.
This represents an increase of $16 million from the previous rules.
It remains to be seen whether Anunoby will elect to sign that extension with the Toronto Raptors, or wait to become a free agent where he will be able to sign for an extra year and more money annually. Jerami Grant signed a five-year, $160 million contract with the Portland Trail Blazers and a contract of that amount is realistically considered Anunoby's floor.
Anuonby signed a four-year, $72 million extension in 2020.
There are six teams that still have their entire $12.4 million non-taxpayer midlevel exception available.
The Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Charlotte Hornets, Memphis Grizzlies, Portland Trail Blazers and Washington Wizards each have the exception. The Grizzlies and Hawks are clearly projected to be in the playoff picture, while the Nets could be on the fringe of it. The Hornets, Blazers and Wizards are expected to be in the lottery.
The Indiana Pacers have $7.5 million in room, while the Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets, Orlando Magic, San Antonio Spurs and Utah Jazz have the $7.7 million room midlevel exception.
