It was reported over the weekend that NBA commissioner Adam Silver is finalizing a contract extension. Silver's initial priorities are helping to negotiate new media rights deals. Following that, the NBA is expected to focus on expansion.

The league's next media rights deal is expected to include more partners than the current ones of ESPN/ABC and TNT Sports. Many expect the league to negotiate a package with a streaming service, such as Amazon Prime, Netflix or Apple Plus.

In addition, many have suggested that the new deal could run shorter than the NBA's current nine-year pact with ESPN/ABC and TNT Sports. A new deal may run as short as five years. That would put Silver in place to lead a second set of negotiations for media rights before his upcoming contract extension expires.
