The New Orleans Pelicans waived Gal Mekel but remain interested in potentially re-signing him later in the season.

"We just felt like it was a move that we wanted to take a look at him," Monty Williams said. "We thought he did a good job, (but) there are some particulars financially that I am not going to discuss, that's for Dell and his staff (to discuss). They do a good job of keeping the organization in a good place. We like (Mekel) a lot. That doesn't mean we won't bring him back. But at this point we felt like we were going to go in a different direction."

Mekel appeared in four games with New Orleans, averaging 1.5 points and 3.3 assists.

"I thought he brought some really good stuff to our team and it kind of stirred the pot a little bit even though we didn't do that on purpose," Williams said. "I thought our guys had a great understanding that we are going to continually tweak the roster to make our team better. For the time that he was here, he helped us."
