Rajon Rondo remained in Los Angeles for a birthday celebration after Friday's game against the Lakers and did not accompany the Boston Celtics to Sacramento for Saturday's game.

Rondo did not receive permission from the team to remain in Los Angeles for a birthday celebration.

“We already talked about it,” Rondo said. “There’s nothing to talk about.”

The Celtics aren't treating it as a big issue, but some were displeased by the move.

Rondo was not scheduled to play against the Kings since it was the second night of a back-to-back.

Rondo could receive a fine.

“His wife and kids were with him in LA, and there were some other people who came in,” a source said. “I think he felt obligated to them, too, and what they had planned for his birthday.”
