Louisiana Gov. Boby Jindal said that the state will likely have to pay the Hornets about $7 million in subsidies because the team will fail to meet certain annual revenue benchmarks.

The governor mentioned the anticipated subsidy payment after discussing his role in a new marketing effort designed both to increase the Hornets' season ticket base and to ensure that the team stays in New Orleans.

The Hornets are currently owned by the NBA who bought the team from former owner George Shinn. At the time, commissioner David Stern said that it was his goal to find a buyer who will keep the team in New Orleans.
