Not much is expected to come from the tampering investigation currently being paid for by Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, a legal source told the Chronicle-Telegram.

Gilbert hired a Chicago-based law firm to conduct an investigation into whether the Heat broke NBA tampering rules by contacting LeBron James before he became an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

He chose a Chicago-based firm to avoid conflict-of-interest concerns with Cleveland firms.

Yahoo! Sports first reported the story on Wednesday.

The NBA won't begin an investigation until the Cavs file an official complaint, which they have not done.
