The Hornets are giving Celtics assistant coach Tom Thibodeau more time to decide whether he wants to be the team's head coach.

After originally setting a Thursday deadline for Thibodeau to accept the offer, New Orleans has decided not to count the defensive guru out, a source told ESPN.com's Marc Stein.

Reports had indicated that if Thibodeau didn't accept the job by Game 1 of the NBA Finals, the Hornets were set to offer it to Portland assistant Monty Williams.

The Hornets are expected to have a final decision from Thibodeau on Friday though, as they don't want their coaching search to drag into another week.
