Bulls rookie forward James Johnson hasn't gotten much playing time this season.

Johnson, taken with the 16th overall pick, has been surpassed on the depth chart by fellow rookie Taj Gibson, who was picked 26th.

The former Wake Forest star has remained upbeat and positive and has patiently waited for opportunities.

"We had walk-ons at Wake Forest, at my college, that went 100 percent in practice, worked out and knew they weren't going to play," Johnson said. "At least I know I have a shot to play.

"I talk to them. A couple of them came to the New York game [last month], and we sat down and had dinner. They taught me so much in my two years at college -- that you have to work hard and everybody's a part of the win. That's what I try to do: work hard in practice and be a part of the wins."

Johnson disagrees with the notion that he's a bust.

"I would tell them they're wrong," he said. "I've learned so much this year. It makes you grow up and be accountable for yourself. This is what I needed. I was used to being a starter, and playing the other role and learning where the other guys are coming from is different for me, but I'm glad I got the experience."
