Timberwolves general manager David Kahn has received permission from the Blazers to talk with assistant coach Monty Williams.

Williams has worked as an assistant in Portland for the last four seasons.

"I'm flattered," Williams told the Oregonian this week. "I'm someone who wants to be a part of a rebuilding process. But at the same time, I'm still a Blazer. So, there's initial excitement, but in reality, nothing has changed. I'm looking forward to the process."

Kahn has said that former Minnesota player Sam Mitchell isn't a candidate for the job.
