DeShawn Stevenson volunteered to end his 275 game starting streak for the benefit of the Washington Wizards, the Associated Press is reporting.

Stevenson, who has started 189 straight games since joining the Wizards for the 2006-07 season, came off the bench Tuesday against the Charlotte Bobcats.

"In a real team gesture he basically told me, 'Tap, I'm struggling a little bit. Why don't you let me come off the bench and see if I can't get my swag back?'" interim coach Ed Tapscott said.

The move didn't exactly pay off. Stevenson scored only three points in 26 minutes off the bench as the Wizards lost 80-72. But Tapscott appreciated the gesture.

"He's a real team-oriented guy," Tapscott said.
