Former point guard Mark Jackson will be the first candidate to interview for the vacant head coaching position with the Phoenix Suns, according to The Arizona Republic.

"They're prepared to win right now," Jackson said. "That's the most intriguing thing."

The team plans to meet with Jackson, currently working as a television analyst for ABC, on either Friday or Monday.

He has also spoken to Chicago about the head coaching position with the Bulls which is the only other vacancy left in the league.

"I've played for five or six surefire Hall of Fame coaches," said Jackson. "I've learned from each and every one of them. I believe if you're a point guard in this league, you've really been a lead assistant for 17 years. If you look at Steve Nash, he has been more important than any assistant coach that the Suns have had during this success. I don't think that can be argued."
