Alvin Williams might be facing another operation on his surgically reconstructed right knee.

The veteran Raptors guard spent two days this week in Birmingham, Ala., having his knee examined by renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews and could decide as early as today to have an operation to shave some bone spurs off his ailing knee.

The bone spurs, along with residual effects of microfracture surgery that prevented Williams from playing the entire 2004-05 season, have kept him on the inactive list for the past 16 Raptor games.

Williams said earlier this season he would consider having the surgery to shave down the spurs ? which are entirely unrelated to the more serious operation he had a year ago ? if the pain they were causing persisted.

If Williams, 31, does decide to have the operation, there is no timetable set for his possible return to action.
