Minnesota Timberwolves forward Latrell Sprewell had until midnight Wednesday to opt out of his contract with the Timberwolves, yet by late Wednesday night, team spokesman Mike Cristaldi said he had nothing to report on Sprewell's decision.

Robert Gist, Sprewell's agent, didn't return a phone call seeking comment. Gist told the Star Tribune he would wait until Thursday to discuss Sprewell's decision.

Sprewell, 33, is scheduled to make $14.625 million next season with the Wolves if he exercises his option. He averaged 16.8 points and 3.5 assists per game last season, his first in Minnesota, and combined with Kevin Garnett and Sam Cassell on the highest-scoring trio in the NBA.

Sprewell averaged 19.8 points and four assists in 18 playoff games for the top-seeded Timberwolves, who lost 4-2 to the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference finals.

Sprewell, the former New York Knicks and Golden State Warriors swingman who came to the Wolves in a multi-team trade last summer, previously has expressed satisfaction with Minnesota. Last week, Wolves vice president and general manager Kevin McHale said he would be shocked if Sprewell opted out.
