_ James Posey, Grizzlies, scored a career-high 38 points, including a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to force a second overtime period as Memphis beat Atlanta 136-133.

_ Caron Butler, Heat, scored 12 of his season-high 30 points in the fourth quarter and pulled down a career-best 13 rebounds to lead Miami to a 105-96 victory over Chicago.

_ Kevin Garnett, Timberwolves, scored six of his 27 points in the last two minutes and had nine assists to lead Minnesota to a 94-88 victory over Houston.

_ Shawn Marion, Suns, had 21 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks to help Phoenix beat Washington 101-95.

SOUTHERN SHOOTOUT

The Memphis Grizzlies beat the Atlanta Hawks 136-133 in double overtime Monday night in the highest-scoring NBA game of the season. The 269-point total surpassed by seven the total from the Hawks' 138-124 win over Washington on March 12. James Posey played 49 of a possible 58 minutes and led the Grizzlies with a career-high 38 points. He hit a 35-foot shot at the end of the first overtime.

THREE STREAK

Miami guard Rafer Alston hit a 3-pointer in the second quarter of the Heat's 105-96 victory over Chicago. Alston has made a 3-pointer in 40 consecutive games.

COME BACK SOON

The New Jersey Nets played their sixth game without injured All-Stars Kenyon Martin and Jason Kidd and fell to 1-5 without them after losing to Boston 84-80. Martin could be close to returning, perhaps as soon as this week, Nets coach Lawrence Frank said. Martin, sidelined with left knee tendinitis, went through a shootaround Monday. Kidd has a bone bruise in his left knee and the date of his return is uncertain.

ROAD WOLVES

The Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Rockets 94-88 in Houston on Monday night. The win improved the Timberwolves' road record to 24-14 _ the best in the Western Conference. The Indiana Pacers are the NBA's best road team at 25-12.

``It was bad for my nerves.'' _ Memphis forward Pau Gasol, on watching most of the Grizzlies' 136-133 double-overtime win over Atlanta from the bench after spraining his right foot late in the first half Monday night. Memphis trailed by as many as 10 and needed a 35-foot shot from James Posey to force a second overtime.
