A Colorado judge has denied the media's request for television and still-photography coverage of the preliminary hearing in the Kobe Bryant sexual assault case scheduled for Oct. 9 at the Eagle County Justice Center.

In court documents filed Monday, Eagle County Judge Frederick Gannett found that the Colorado Code of Judicial Conduct prohibits "expanded media coverage of pretrial hearings in criminal cases, except advisements and arraignments."

The decision came in response to expanded-media requests by Court TV, The Denver Post and The Rocky Mountain News.

Concerned above preserving the victim's privacy and the defendant's right to a fair trial, both the prosecution and the defense had objected to such expanded coverage of the hearing, which is likely to provide the first detailed and possibly graphic accounts of the June 30 alleged assault.
