On a day the Orlando Magic reached agreements with two new, young point guards, they reached out to their old standby Friday -- Darrell Armstrong.

After the Magic signed draft pick Reece Gaines and came to terms with Tyronn Lue, General Manager John Gabriel made it a point to visit Armstrong, who has been conducting his basketball camp at the downtown First Presbyterian Church.

Armstrong, 35, has expressed his unhappiness and frustration publicly over not yet being re-signed by the Magic, the team with whom he has played his entire nine-year career.

Gabriel did not give any indication that Armstrong's crowd-pleasing tenure was over in Orlando, despite the pending signing of Lue and the apparent difference between Armstrong and the club in contract negotiations.

If Gabriel was trying to soothe Armstrong or reassure him the team still wants him, he wouldn't say.

"I'm just going to go talk to him," said Gabriel, who discovered Armstrong when he was toiling in basketball's minor leagues.
