The Orlando Magic fortified their point guard position Friday, signing rookie Reece Gaines while also landing a verbal commitment from free-agent guard Tyronn Lue.

Lue, who has played the past two seasons with the Washington Wizards, is expected to officially sign a two-year deal with the Magic on either Monday or Tuesday. The Magic rated Lue just ahead of fellow free agent Antonio Daniels.

"I like a lot of things about Lue, especially after talking with him last week," Magic coach Doc Rivers said. "The coaches he's played for and Michael Jordan loved him. Doug Collins couldn't have given him a better report. He's tough, he's played for championships, he's played with stars, he can distribute the ball and he can play pressure defense."

The addition of the two point guards means that Darrell Armstrong, a nine-year veteran who has played his entire career with the Magic, likely won't return. Magic general manager John Gabriel said that the Magic are still negotiating with Armstrong's representatives and that carrying three point guards on the roster is not out of the question.
