The question as to whom the Washington Wizards will pick with the 10th and 38th picks in tonight's NBA draft is nearly as intriguing as who will be making decisions for the team.

The top three members of Washington's basketball operations staff -- General Manager Wes Unseld, assistant GM Rod Higgins and director of player personnel Fred Whitfield -- might not be with the team by the time training camp opens in October.

Coach Eddie Jordan has been around just long enough to witness a handful of workouts. And owner Abe Pollin and President Susan O'Malley have spent more time scouting front-office talent than available players.

"By [tonight] I will have heard everything from the guys who have been here, and they'll have heard from me about what I like in a player," Jordan said. "They've seen these people play and done their research, and we'll go after the players we think will help the most."

Unseld, who will officially make the pick, is taking a leave of absence for health reasons as soon as Pollin hires his replacement. Milwaukee GM Ernie Grunfeld, who has yet to be granted permission to interview with the Wizards, is believed to be Washington's top choice.
