Mike Dunleavy has emerged as the leading candidate to coach the Clippers after being brought in for a second interview. Dunleavy met for two hours Friday with Clippers vice president Elgin Baylor and owner Donald T. Sterling. Dunleavy, who was first interviewed last month, is the only candidate to have met with Sterling and the only one to have had a second interview.

Dunleavy has coached the Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks and Portland Trail Blazers. He spent this past season as a television commentator for the San Antonio Spurs.

Dennis Johnson, who finished the season as the Clippers interim coach, remains a candidate. Johnson was promoted from assistant coach when Alvin Gentry was fired March 3. Johnson's contract expires June 30.

"They haven't made a decision yet,'' Johnson said Tuesday. "I'm working out a group of players (today). Until they make a decision, I have to continue to do my work because I'm under contract." Salary considerations will factor into the Clippers' hiring decision. Gentry was one of the league's lowest-paid coaches at $1.5 million per season.
