Honorary GM Sam Smith is back with his weekly Chicago Tribune article on how to improve the Bulls, and this time he thinks the answer may just lie in the nation's captial.  And no, we are not talking about Michael Jordan.

According to Smith the Chicago Bulls are learning that GM Jerry Krause's theory that a team should not draft local products is ringing true, and Eddy Curry is living proof.  The Bulls took Curry with the fourth overall pick in the 2001 NBA draft fresh out of Thornwood High School in Illinois and this season the seven foot monster has looked miserable both in appearance and on the court.  Could this be the pressure of playing night after night in front of his family and friends?

Smith proposes that the Bulls package Curry with point guard Jamal Crawford and sent both across to Jordan and the Wizards in exchange for Kwame Brown, the first overall pick of the same draft and another high schooler.

Smith writes that the Wizards are as unhappy with Brown as the Bulls are with Curry, with Washington insiders depicting him as lazy and stubborn, unwilling to adjust, at odds with Doug Collins and Michael Jordan.  After having a huge game in Chicago on the 2nd of January Brown played just five minutes and went scoreless in a double overtime win over the Pacers.

The Bulls, says Smith, would get the player they coveted in the 2001 NBA draft in Brown, whom Krause would have taken over Chandler if given the opportunity, and they also rid themselves of the competition at point guard.

The Wizards, on the other hand, 'finally are satisfied that Larry Hughes isn't a point guard. Looking ahead to next season, they could play him at shooting guard, Jerry Stackhouse?if he re-signs?at small forward and Jared Jeffries and Etan Thomas at power forward. So the deal for a center like Curry makes some sense for them,' concludes Smith.

Fair trade?  You be the judge.
