NBA.com reports that the Orlando Magic traded Don Reid and a future 1st round pick to the Denver Nuggets for their 2004 2nd round pick.

?This move enables us to stockpile a future first round selection and gives us another solid big man for our frontcourt,? Nuggets General Manager Kiki Vandeweghe said. The Nuggets will acquire the first round selection owed to Orlando by the Los Angeles Clippers in a previous deal in 2000. The pick will be protected 1-21 in 2003, 1-15 in 2004, 1-14 in 2005 and unprotected in 2006. The Nuggets also are owed a protected first round pick from the Milwaukee Bucks beginning next season.

"This maneuver allows us to address our recent draft selections, while creating additional flexibility in regard to our current roster," said Magic GM John Gabriel. "Don Reid is a true team player and fulfilled every role we asked of him, but obviously with the number of players at his position, playing time for the coming season would be at a premium."

It is being speculated that the $1 million shaved from the Magic payroll may be used to sign Raptors free agent Keon Clark and still remain below the luxury tax limit.
