Ken Hornack of the Daytona News-Journal reports: Troy Hudson hoped to be concentrating Monday on the chances of him either returning to the Orlando Magic or leaving for another team via free agency.

Instead, the Magic's top player off the bench last season has more serious matters with which to deal.

A shooting late Sunday night at Hudson's home in Maitland left a 20-year-old man dead. The victim, Carrick Reid, was described as someone who "used to come to the house occasionally" by Hudson's agent, Bill Neff.

Police said Hudson wasn't home at the time of the attack -- the second time in three days that Hudson's house was targeted. In Sunday's incident, according to police, a car pulled into the driveway at Hudson's house, two men got out and opened fire. A 15-year-old was pistol-whipped while a third person, Cleveland Fields, 27, of Maitland, escaped through a rear window.

Hudson, 26, was staying elsewhere in the Orlando area after robbers took several hundred dollars and attacked some guests upon failing to find the keys to his cars Friday. He wasn't home during Friday's incident, either.

His house is located in a wealthy suburb near the Magic's practice facility, the RDV Sportsplex.

Neff said Reid, Fields and the teen are friends and relatives of Hudson.

Police spokesman Lt. Gary Calhoun said there were no suspects yet, but investigators found a stolen Jeep Cherokee believed to have been driven by the suspects less than a half-mile from Hudson's home.

In a statement released by the Magic, Hudson expressed grief for Reid's family and said he was cooperating with the investigation.

"I am saddened and stunned by his untimely death," Hudson said.

Neff said he spoke Monday with Magic general manager John Gabriel and added Hudson may take some trips elsewhere to talk to other teams. Although Neff would not specify any potential suitors, the New Jersey Nets, the Detroit Pistons and the Minnesota Timberwolves are all in need of guard depth.
