Jimmy Smith of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that Baron Davis will remain a Hornet for a t least a little while longer. The Los Angeles Clippers, owners of the eighth and 12th picks in the first round of Wednesday's NBA draft, contacted the New Orleans Hornets on Thursday about the possibility of acquiring point guard Baron Davis. Bob Bass, Hornets executive vice president of basketball operations, confirmed the call and added, "We have no intention of trading Baron Davis." Bass said, "They called today. But we're not interested in trading Davis at all."

The talks come two weeks after Davis, entering his third year in the NBA, switched agents from Arn Tellem to Jerome Stanley, and just days after a report in the New York Post that Stanley informed the Hornets that Davis would not sign a contract extension with New Orleans and that Davis would like to be traded to New York, Chicago or a team on the West Coast. Under the terms of Davis' present contract he is obligated to play for the Hornets through next season, one in which he will earn $3.9 million. After that Davis becomes a restricted free agent and could sign a deal with another team, though the Hornets would have the right to match the contract.

"According to the collective bargaining agreement the Hornets have the right for Baron's services and have exercised that option in accordance to his contract," Stanley said. "I've talked to Bob, trying to get up to speed on things, but I'm not going to say what we talked about. At this time Baron is working out, not in Los Angeles, but another part of the country. He has nothing to talk about."
