John Denton of the Florida Today reports: The Orlando Magic's decision of whether to select a rebounding power forward or a playmaking point guard in Wednesday's NBA Draft might be a little easier to make now, with the word that veteran Horace Grant could be returning next season.

Grant, 36, said repeatedly last season he planned to retire after being bothered by severe tendinitis in both knees. But Magic general manager John Gabriel said Wednesday he believes Grant will return for a 16th NBA season.

Meanwhile, veteran center Patrick Ewing, who turns 40 in August, has yet to inform the team of his plans for next season. Ewing averaged career lows in practically every statistical category last season. Gabriel, who has spoken to both Grant and Ewing of late, said at the end of the postseason he hoped to get a decision from both veterans before the draft. However, he stressed he isn't trying to hurry their decisions now with the draft less than a week away.

"It's still a delicate issue, and when they feel it's time to make an announcement I'm sure they will," Gabriel said. "Both have had great careers and they're still thinking things over. But I really think Horace is leaning toward playing again."

Getting Grant back might influence how the Magic use the 18th pick in the draft. But Orlando, which ranked 25th in the NBA in rebounding last season and was battered inside in the playoffs by Charlotte, is still likely to opt for a center or power forward.
