It's official: The Timberwolves are sad about being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.

"Who the heck likes to get beat in the first round?" asked Kevin McHale, head of basketball operations.

That was the gist of the organization's annual postseason news conference on Tuesday. Oh, and they're going to try to do better. Have a nice summer, everybody. Drive carefully on the way home.

For those of us who passed on wolfing down the complimentary ham and turkey sandwiches, the get-together was very unsatisfying.

One of the reasons it was so unfulfilling was McHale's refusal to acknowledge that changes might be in the offing. Other than the occasional "anything is possible" or "we're looking at all the possibilities," McHale tap-danced around the notion that several of his current players might be shipped elsewhere posthaste.
