Strange world, the NBA. On the very same afternoon, the Timberwolves managed to improve themselves, yet fall further behind one of their main competitors in the Midwest Division.

Yes, the Wolves made a nice trade in sending center Dean Garrett to Golden State for 6-10 forward/center Marc Jackson. Garrett's job in Minnesota had been reduced to firing up Kevin Garnett right before tipoff.

Though Jackson has not contributed much lately, he is 8 1/2 years younger, has more talent and provides a legitimate big body to add to the Wolves' crowded mix up front. He also can hit the mid-range shot that can move some of the Western Conference centers -- Vlade Divac, David Robinson and even Shaquille O'Neal -- away from the basket a bit. He's certainly worth the investment, especially down the line.
