Hispanic community that had mostly forgiven Denver Nuggets coach Dan Issel for an ethnically explicit insult Dec. 11 called his choice to resign unfortunate and disappointing.
NBA sources said Issel would announce his resignation after he reaches contract buyout terms with team management. He recently served a four-game suspension and one-game hiatus related to the incident, in which he responded to a heckler with an anti-Hispanic slur.

After two meetings with area Hispanic leaders and a public apology, Issel appeared to have made amends and was moving forward. Many were surprised Sunday by this latest news.
