Midway through the second quarter, the Jazz were shooting 32 percent from the field and the hot-shooting Dallas Mavericks were pushing 60 percent.

And the score was tied.

It was Utah"s shooting from the free throw line that kept them in the game while their other shots wouldn"t drop.

Half of Utah"s first 42 points came from the line and for the game, the Jazz made 35-of-42 attempts.

Karl Malone was the biggest beneficiary, making 12-of-16 free throws to move into first place on the NBA"s all-time list for career free throws attempted.

He now has attempted 11,875 free throws for his career (making 8,776), passing Wilt Chamberlain.
