Tim Povtak of the Orlando Sentinel reports: The Orlando Magic hope to fashion their team this season to a style similar to what the Chicago Bulls did during the 1990s with Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, using Tracy McGrady and Grant Hill as their 1-2 punch.

The plan would mean altering the role of point guard and captain Darrell Armstrong dramatically while shifting NBA Rookie of the Year Mike Miller from the starting lineup into a reserve role.

Two weeks before training camp is scheduled to open, Coach Doc Rivers said he expects the Magic to be serious contenders for the NBA Finals.

This is the first year we can go into the season knowing, that if our guys stay healthy, we can really make some noise," Rivers said. "Our expectations are very high, and they should be."

The health of Hill -- a five-time all-star who played only four games last season because of left ankle problems -- is key to all plans, but Rivers said all doubts have been erased by watching Hill scrimmage with teammates the past four days.

"People will be shocked when they see him play," Rivers said. "He's explosive, dunking, beating people up the floor and [cutting] to the basket, almost reckless. There are no signs of any problems with the ankle. He may be a little rusty after being away so long, but he looks great, 100 percent healthy."
