Arenas Would Take Pay Cut For Jamison

Gilbert Arenas has told the media that he is willing to sign for less with the Wizards in order to keep Antawn Jamison as his teammate, the Washington Post is reporting.

"I want to see Antawn taken care of first and then I'll take the pay cut to keep the team intact," said Arenas, who plans to opt out of the final season of his contract.

Wiz: We Want To Keep Arenas And Jamison

The Wizards hope, and plan, to keep both Gilbert Arenas and Antawn Jamison past this season, according to the Washington Post.

Arenas maintains that he plans to opt out of his deal at the end of the season, and Jamison will be an unrestricted free agent.

"Going into next year, we don't think we are going to see a lot of wholesale changes," Eddie Jordan said Thursday during a conference call.

"We've said all along that our intention is to have those guys here over the long haul, and that hasn't changed at all," Ernie Grunfeld said. "Even with Gilbert injured this season, we've shown that we can beat some of the best teams in the league. We like the development we are seeing from our young players, and we feel that when we are healthy, we can compete with anyone in the Eastern Conference."
