Ruffin: "There Was A Little More Time Than I Thought"

In the closing seconds of regulation on Friday night, the Wizards held a three-point lead over the Raptors. Anthony Parker's long pass lofted harmlessly in the air, was deflected and grabbed near the three-point line at the Washington end by forward Michael Ruffin.

Ruffin landed with the ball but then attempted to throw it high into the air toward the other end of the court. Instead, the ball slipped out of Ruffin's right hand and landed directly in the hands of Toronto guard Morris Peterson, who made a three-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.

"My natural reaction was to just throw the ball in the air and let time run out but I didn't get a good throw on it and there was a little more time than I thought," Ruffin said. "When I threw it, it kind of slipped off my palm. I didn't get a good grip on it."

The Raptors went on to win in the overtime session.

Bargnani Returns To Practice

Andrea Bargnani met with doctors on Wednesday and has been cleared for light exercise eight days after having his appendix removed.

For Bargnani that meant light jogging on a treadmill and a dozen or so careful jump shots.

"I feel good, I'm happy," he said.

Garbo Myths Already Beginning

Facing Tuesday's 1 1/2-hour surgery to repair the gruesome lower-leg injury that fractured his fibula and spun his left foot to an inhuman angle, Jorge Garbajosa was asked for his preference of anaesthesia. There were, the story goes, two options: the full-body knockout or a needle in the lower back to numb everything below the waist.

"Garbo says to the doctor, `Just give me the back shot because I want to see what you're doing,'" said Maurizio Gherardini, the Raptors assistant general manager, flashing a broad smile as he told the tale. "That's the kind of guy he is."
