Bulls Add Michael Brown To Coaching Staff

The Chicago Bulls named Michael Brown assistant coach on Wednesday. Brown joins Ron Adams, Pete Myers and Mike Wilhelm to round out Jim Boylan’s coaching staff.

“Michael’s main responsibility will be working with Pete Myers and focusing on the continued development of our young big men,” said Bulls Interim Head Coach Jim Boylan. “His experience as a player in the NBA, and as a coach in the NBDL, will be a welcome addition to our staff and our team.”

Brown, 44, comes to the Bulls with five years of coaching experience. He spent four seasons in the NBA Development League, two seasons as an assistant coach with the Roanoke Dazzle, and two years as the head coach of the Fayetteville Patriots. Prior to his time in the D-League, he spent one year with the ABA’s Las Vegas Slam.

Nuggets Wanted To Trade For Chandler In 2006

According to the Denver Post, George Karl called the Hornets' Tyson Chandler "a young Marcus", in reference to defensive stud Marcus Camby, and said that the Nuggets were "very interested" in trading for Tyson Chandler, then with Chicago, in the summer of 2006.

"This is a young Marcus (Camby) who can get 20 rebounds," Karl said of the Hornets center. "There's about 90 percent of big guys in the NBA who you could lock in a gym all night long and they couldn't get 20 rebounds."

Chicago traded Chandler to New Orleans instead, receiving P.J. Brown — as well as J.R. Smith, who the Bulls shipped to Denver for Howard Eisley and two second-round picks.

Gordon Doesn't Regret Declining Contract Offer

Ben Gordon and Luol Deng will be restricted free agents next summer as they were unable to come to terms with the Bulls on extensions.

Deng has a per 40 FIC (RealGM's efficiency formula) of 12.9 while Gordon's is 9.9. Last season, Deng and Gordon had per 40 FIC's of 14.0 and 11.7 respectively.

"One of those two guys told me he made a mistake," Jerry Reinsdorf, chairman of the Bulls said in an interview with WGN-TV. "I don't know if that had something to do with [the slow start]."

"Obviously, he wasn't talking about me," Gordon told the Sun-Times when asked about Reinsdorf's remarks.

Gordon was reportedly offered a five-year deal worth $50 million.

Deng told the Sun-Times that he only regretted not coming to terms on a deal, not declining the offer he received.
