Woodson Will Return As Hawks' Head Coach

Bernie Mullin, president of the Atlanta Hawks, said head coach Mike Woodson will return for his fourth season despite another losing season.

Mullin said the Hawks' ownership group has not yet met in a "formal sit-down," but he said the message from the owners was that Woodson deserves another chance after enduring a season-long battle with injuries.

"Clearly they feel that a change in Mike Woodson's status at this point in time would be completely unfair," Mullin said.

"Obviously he didn't have a fair chance with the talent being out as much as it was this year. We had catastrophic injuries."

Hawks' Johnson, Claxton Will Miss Final Three Games

Atlanta forward Joe Johnson and guard Speedy Claxton will sit out the final three games of the season because of injuries that have nagged the Hawks for months.

Johnson, the club's leading scorer, missed his 19th straight game Saturday because of a bruised right calf. Coach Mike Woodson said the club decided to rest Johnson so he can recover more quickly.
