The New Orleans Hornets are looking to lock up point guard Chris Paul with a long-term contract extension worth nearly $80 million over the next five seasons, according to The Times-Picayune.

The team's four-month window to negotiate an extension with Paul will open on July 1, as he enters the final year of his rookie contract.

New Orleans ownership has called locking up Paul their biggest priority this summer.

"We'll work it all out together through Chris and his representatives," general manager Jeff Bower said. "The great thing with Chris is he understands his priorities and his responsibilities. He'll keep everything in the proper perspective moving through the summer."
