Eastern Conference All-Stars
Starters
F: LeBron James (942, 21.6, +53) – James has easily been the NBA’s best per 40 player this season.
F: Kevin Garnett (756, 21.0, -20) – Kevin Garnett and the Celtics have been stunning and nearly perfect.
C: Dwight Howard (942, 21.2, +292) – Anyone who wasn’t anticipating Howard’s breakout campaign must have simply been over-thinking the simplicity of physical superiority.
G: Jason Kidd (709, 17.7, -17) – Jason Kidd is like Chuck Taylor’s, always classic and never out of style.
G: Caron Butler (658, 15.9, +71) – Tough Juice is one of the NBA’s most affordable players.
Reserves
Chauncey Billups (638, 17.9, +38) – There has been zero post-free agency decline for Billups.
Antawn Jamison (627, 15.1, -16) – Jamison wisely has picked a walk year to return to his All-Star form.
Jose Calderon (618, 18.3, +446) – The injury to T.J. Ford has allowed Calderon to increase his minutes and qualify for serious All-Star consideration.
Chris Bosh (607, 17.7, +3) – Rousing homemade videos or not, Bosh deserves a trip to New Orleans.
Gerald Wallace (597, 13.5, +39) – Like Billups, Wallace has proved the worth of his fresh contract.
Josh Smith (585, 16.3, +491) – Josh Smith, not Joe Johnson, is Atlanta’s resident underrated player.
Paul Pierce (576, 14.3, -20) – Pierce has been brilliant, and Boston deserves two representatives.
Western Conference All-Stars
Starters
F: Carlos Boozer (725, 18.9, +57) – As was the case last season, when Boozer stays healthy, he is an elite classic power forward.
F: Shawn Marion (741, 18.3, +16) – Possibly proving his point once and for all, Marion is a statistical monster while the praises of Steve Nash, Grant Hill, and even Brian Skinner are being sung.
C: Marcus Camby (791, 21.0, +73) – It is amazing to see Camby left off ballots altogether. He is the clear choice to start at center.
G: Chris Paul (820, 21.0, +446) – David West and Tyson Chandler are not fringe All-Stars without Chris Paul.
G: Steve Nash (803, 21.3, +73) – Starting two point guards in this mythical All-Star lineup is problematic, but they are both MVP candidates.
Reserves
Baron Davis (774, 17.5, +16) – Three of the top six players in season FIC are point guards; Davis is left off as a starter but is the most deserving reserve.
Dirk Nowitzki (719, 17.9, +0) – Nowitzki’s numbers are downfrom his MVP campaign last season, particularly his 3-point percentage (41.6 to 32.2), but he remains one of the league’s best.
Kobe Bryant (712, 18.2, -16) – While not the prolific score he has been in certain seasons, this is Bryant’s best all-around season since 02-03 when he finished the year with a per 40 FIC of 18.0.
Yao Ming (711, 17.8, +19) - Yao is just five games away from matching his games played total from last year.
Amare Stoudemire (707, 20.9, +19) – Stoudemire has been far better this season than he was the last (17.8 per 40) when he was named to the All-NBA first team.
Al Jefferson (705, 18.0, +545) – The KG trade has disappointed nobody in Boston, but it is already clear that Kevin McHale was able to get one of the best young bigs in the game.
Allen Iverson ( 705, 15.2, -18) – Iverson gets the final nod on the West just barely beating out Deron Williams. |
