Ricky Rubio and the Minnesota Timberwolves will have contract talks in person this week that could make him the second-highest paid player on the team.

Both sides appear willing to make a deal. Rubio and Glen Taylor spoke several times by telephone last week, with each expressing hope a contract extension can get done soon.

A new deal, expected to be for four seasons, could be worth $11 million annually. Nikola Pekovic is the highest paid Timberwolves player at $12.1 a year.

Rubio's representatives have been seeking a five-year maximum contract. The Timberwolves are willing to wait if the four-year deal is not enough.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are making a final push to acquire Eric Bledsoe in a sign-and-trade with the Phoenix Suns.

The Wolves are offering Bledsoe a four-year, $63 million max contract.

Bledsoe and the Suns have been in a stalemate all summer after the team offered him a four-year, $48 million deal in July.

Fox 10 in Phoenix earlier reported the Wolves had made a maximum contract offer to Bledsoe.

The Minnesota Timberwolves and Ricky Rubio have discussed a contract extension and the team is optimistic about a deal.

"I feel optimistic," Milt Newtons said. "Knowing Ricky the person, he wants to be here. Now we just have to deal with his agent. If we can get something done sooner, great. If not, we're not necessarily in a rush.

"There some things we agree on, some things we don't agree on."

Rubio has until Oct. 31 to sign a new deal.

Kyrylo Fesenko has signed a training camp contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Fesenko has played five NBA seasons with the Utah Jazz and Indiana Pacers.

Fesenko last appeared in camp with the Chicago Bulls in 2012.

Glenn Robinson III has reached agreement with the Minnesota Timberwolves on a guaranteed contract.

The Wolves had to deal with a long process to sign Robinson due to the upheaval of their roster this summer.

Robinson flew to Minneapolis to sign an agreement on Monday and planned to begin preparations with the Wolves for the start of training camp later this month.

Robinson dropped to 40th overall after leaving Michigan as a sophomore.

Klay Thompson was involved in trade speculation with the Minnesota Timberwovles and Kevin Love, but preferred to stay with the Golden State Warriors.

"I'm super excited to be back," Thompson said. "I love the Bay Area. I love the Warriors, the fans. I just love our team.

"I wasn't really pissed. I was more just worried about being traded, just because I'm so comfortable in the Bay. I think that's natural for anybody (to not want to) just get up and move. I mean it wouldn't have been the end of the world, but it's a business, and I'm still playing ball for a living.

"I was more happy when they showed faith in me that they didn't want to budge and trade me for a guy (in Love) who's a multiple all-NBA guy and a proven All-Star. I thought that was really cool that the Warriors believed in my potential."

Ricky Rubio's agent and the Minnesota Timberwolves have discussed a contract extension for the point guard and talks will continue until the Oct. 31 deadline.

"I'm loyal," Rubio said. "I want to give them back what they gave me there: a lot of love."

Rubio would become a restricted free agent if the two sides cannot reach a new deal.

Flip Saunders must decide on the Timberwolves' vision of Rubio as a franchise cornerstone.
