Is it better to not talk any trash and show no emotion like Tim Duncan or is it better to talk trash and try to get inside of your opponent's head? Personally, I think that it is better to be like Tim Duncan. People that talk trash only motivate me to play better. I also have a lot more respect for people like Duncan.

Depends on if you back it up when you talk ****. Guys like Kobe and Jordan who talk and then back it up are funner to watch. But when guys like KG and DeShawn Stevenson talk ****, they're better off just keeping their mouths shut.

Guys like Jordan talk to their opponant but we as fans don't hear what's said.


As a fan, I love the entertaining interview. I love the guy like Ali who's so much fun to listen to.


Now, as far as what's more effective, I think intensity is important, whether it's quiet intensity or trash talking intensity. Personally, when I play, I'd rather not trash talk, I'd rather just concentrate on the game, so I think, if I'm playing the game, I agree with you, I'd rather play with Tim Duncan than say a trash talking guy like KG or Jordan.

but Ali's a bad comparison, cause Ali was a great interview, and I love it when guys are great interviews.

Talking trash isn't the opposite of showing no emotion y'know... Either way, Tim Duncan doesn't get hate from his opponents but you might get hate if you talk trash at an extreme level.

I guess that has sth to do with being in a heavyweight fight throwing punches at each other kind of takes away the possibility to talk much to begin with But as far as boxing goes i doubt there was anybody as much interacting with his direct opponent than Ali, be it with talking or gestures .

It depends on your personality and the personality of your opponent. Most of the time I just keep my mouth shut. Sometimes though, im playing and I can just see that a guy gets frustrated really easily. Then I can't help but talk.

I can't play ANYTHING without talking ****..it's a great strategy if you know what you're doing and depending on who your opponent is..

Maybe Ali was a bad example. When I say trash talking I'm also talking about guys like Gary Payton, MJ, and KG.

Duncan is one of the greats, but not the best

So maybe that answers the question; Ali was more successful with his philosophy than Duncan has been with his.

But I think it also depends upon the makeup of the athelete. Duncan has admitted that he plays better when he is keeps his emotions in check, but some (Kobe, Jordan) need to fire themselves up

I can give you plenty of examples of talkers who suck. Deshawn Stevenson for example...

I think talent wins. Who's the better talker is secondary.

I think that in a team sport, it's better to be humble. No matter how good you are, you're relying on teammates, and they may not be able to back up your talk.

But in something like boxing, it's all you, and when you're the best like Ali was, I think the emotional victory can kind of assist the literal victory.
