Re: 2014 draft
Interesting. Don't dislike him, but seemed like a bit of a reach which makes you wonder if they did that for more bonus $. Or maybe they just thought he was BPA and the pitchers I weren't sure things.

sounds like they thought he was the best hitter in the draft - might move him to the outfield (or possibly catcher)
i think i like the strategy of loading up on hitters, pitchers can be tricky

Re: 2014 draft
They had him listed as Catcher. If he can do that then great. They need a good young catcher prospect

Re: 2014 draft
Don't think he has any chance at staying at catcher. He was bad defensively in college, those type of guys are always moved. I've heard LF is his most likely position, but he may have to move to 1st.
Cubs took the first bat in the draft for the second straight year. I was a little surprised to see them take a college senior with the second pick, I figured they'd throw more money at a high school arm since Schwarber will probably sign for underslot.
With both picks coming cheap, I guess they have some decent money to try and get some talent that's fallen because of money demands.

Sands and Cease are the big selections, they'll both need well above slot to sign and skip school.

Agreed. Be nice to land them. I know we should have extra $, but can't remember how big the pool is that we're dividing up.
On the whole I can support the idea of going hitter with the 1st as that's a lower risk and then going volume on the arms. That said I did want to see a premier arm added early, but likely they'll also add more pitching come veteran fire sale.
