When you have a strained muscle/elbow like that it really doesn't take much to reaggrevate it. A slight tweak in the wrong direction can cause some serious damage. My guess is really is injured and is trying to suck it up and make a go tonight. I think he'll get in there, realize he can't play throught he pain and sit the rest of the game.
