Don Nelson needs to be added and K.C. Jones, I think, subtracted.

Colin Quinn was the one I was looking for since he and Apatow are given credit for the story. nice job, he is one of my favorite comedians. I miss Tough Crowd so much.

In the obvious follow-up, three former Celtics players that I can identify have won NBA Player of the Year. Two are pretty easy; the third I would never have thought of had I not researched the question. Who are they?

Once again, this is about Celtics players, so Red is not an answer.

And here's one that might go on for a while:

What's the largest number of future NBA head coaches to play for the Celtics at the same time? Please spell out details.
(For the number I have in mind, several different rosters are in a tie.) I'm including interim head coaches.

'86 had Bird, McHale, Ainge, DJ and Carlisle.

Mid 70's teams had Cowens, Nelson, Chaney, Silas and Westphal.

Off the top of my head I can't think of teams that might have had more than five.

What are the three colors present in the original Celtics logo? What is strange about the leaves of the clover?

Who were they?

Please note that I'm asking about former players. Red Auerbach, for example, is NOT an answer.

This was my guess:

Larry Bird
Rick Carlisle
Bill Sharman
Tom Heinsohn
KC Jones
Don Chaney

(I looked up the answer...doh. Had that one lined up, too, only to miss the open lay up.)

Well, you got the one I wouldn't have. Unfortunately, you also got one of the incorrect guesses I would have had ahead of him. :D

And Don Nelson, I think has won the award the most times. I remembered Chaney because it somehow stuck with my adolescent self when the hoops pundits talked about how winning the coach of the year was the kiss of death after Chaney got canned one or two seasons after winning the award.

I'm not sure if this group actually played together in the late 50s/early 60s, but it seems likely: Cousy, Russell, Heinsohn, Sharman, KC Jones.

The China Doll, Reading about his lunches there were my favorite parts to read about in Let Me Tell You a Story.

Yes, they actually played together for about 5 years.

The 1981-82 team also had five: Ainge, Bird, Ford, McHale, Carr.

Who is the only player to have played with both Bill Russell and Larry Bird?

The figure I got up to is 6 future head coaches at once. That includes interim head coaches, player-coaches, and so on.

My reflex was to say Cowens, but he didn't actually play with Russell.

Did Hondo last that long?

I believe Sam Vincent also coached the Bobcats, bringing the '86 Celtics to 6 - 50%, not counting Sly Williams.

Coaches: Bird, McHale, Ainge, DJ, Vincent, Carlisle
Stragglers: Sichting (a long time assistant though, could his time eventually come?), Parish, Thirdkill, Walton, Kite, Wedman

You forgot the same guy I had forgotten from that era until I looked things up. And it's pretty embarrassing once one realizes who one missed ...

Also, I think Sanders would bring the '60s teams up to 6 as well.
