On fire off the bench. Might limiting his minutes be the best option.

Hunter looked good tonight.
He's going to be good in the future!

I'm praying he stays healthy going forward. His transformation under Quin has been eye opening. He's cut out the long mid rangers and becoming a true 3 and D-er. Timely drives to the basket and getting to the freethrow line has also improved along with his rebounding.

This is very positive to see. OO and other Hawks that are young have been a concern of mine. While they're coming around slowly, I hope we know more by seasons end, how we intend to go about our future.

If this was the case, we should have benched his a** years ago.

You take Hunter's numbers for what they are currently. A hot run. He's done this before. Maybe not to this extent, but he'll go on a streak of good shooting, and then the 3 ball fades. Now if the argument is to use him off the bench to limit his wear and tear in hopes of longer spurts of this, then I could see that as a possibility.

Is Hunter really going to be content with this role over starting? Time will tell......

The shooting is what it is - it will come and go. I think it's how he is shooting/scoring that makes the difference.
I think part of that is he's playing with increase speed regarding his decisions: catch and shoot, catch and go. He is making the defense react to him vs reacting to the defense. No longer jab step, jab step, fake, hold the ball see what the defense is doing then go. He's playing proactively and being aggressive.

Limiting his minutes may also be the appropriate approach to his efficiency.

DH's body likely can't handle starters mins. He looks way more spry off the bench. He's excelling in that role which likely increases that trade value.

If the Hawks keep him, a high motor 3&D wing starting really changes the ceiling, especially if Hunter continues to thrive in this role.

Why is Hunter playing so much better off the bench? Is it because of the inferiour level of competition of bench player minutes....or who he's playing with on his own team?

I've always been a fan of Hunter and thought that he more than anyone was being held back. His recent play off the bench seems to validate that

I think it's the above plus an assortment of other things:
1. Quin has unlocked him....he's making quicker decisions with the ball wether it's to shoot it or 'gulp' make a play. If he's open, he's letting it fly.
Before he would catch, wait for the defense, diagnose it then try to make a play, he was reacting to the defense...now He's making the defense react to him which helps him get to the free throw line.
2. Playing from.the bench and limited minutes, he doesn't have to worry too much about fouls.
3. He's displaying a level of toughness I haven't seen before. He's finally playing using his size
4. He's had more run out dunks this season than I think he's had in his previous years combined.
5. The biggest thing has been his CONSISTENCY. He has strung together more good games than bad and part of that is just plain ole maturity as a basketball player.
