2024 Prospect Highlight: Alex Sarr

Post#1 » by Jamaaliver » Sun May 12, 2024 8:42 pm

Alex Sarr | Perth | PF/C | Age: 19

The Hawks caught lightning in a bottle in Sunday's lottery, converting on just a 3% chance to win (10th-best odds) the top pick. Suffice it to say, this is a major stroke of fortune for Atlanta, which doesn't control its own first-round pick again until 2028, owing future picks and swaps to the San Antonio Spurs. This had been viewed as an offseason of potentially big changes for Atlanta, as the Hawks weigh the luxury tax and attempt to navigate their way out of the middle of the Eastern Conference standings. Now they'll unexpectedly have a chance to pick who they want from atop the draft.

Coming off a solid year in the NBL, Sarr is the most physically gifted big in this class, and could give Atlanta a much-needed element of size and floor spacing from the frontcourt. He'll have work to do in expanding his offensive game, sharpening his 3-point range and adjusting to the speed of the NBA, but could be quite valuable as someone who can stretch the floor and protect the rim at both the 4 and 5 spots. If the goal is to build a better defense around Trae Young, Sarr looks like a strong fit because of his versatility on both ends of the floor.

It's a long wait until the draft, but Sarr as the pick should be as obvious as it gets.

The Hawks can now concentrate on how they'll build around Trae, JJ, and Alex.

Sounds a lot like Chet Holmgren with a questionable jump shot...

I'll start by saying I never expected us to win the lottery, nor did I believe we would trade up to #1. So with us winning the lottery, Sarr is hands down the player you pick. Dude instantly unlocks this roster, and most importantly starting 5. Now you can throw OO next to Sarr, play JJ at the 3, and only lack a 2 guard(that's only if we don't just throw Bogi in there). We literally got gift wrapped exactly what we needed, and he's only 18.

Pissed that Hawks got #1 vs staying at #10? :o
Or pissed Hawks didn't say at 10 to draft your boy Edey (which I don't think he'd go that high anyway).?

If we have no option for this summer to trade for a good C that can shoot 3s, I would say that Sarr is the best player to pick because he can bring defense with more athleticism/speed than Clint, and open the floor if he just improve a bit his shooting.

Imagine playing Sarr/OO/JJ, we can add Trae/Bogi as PG/SG without worrying as much as we were used to about defense, and if OO and Sarr can reach 35% from 3s, it would be a nightmare for the other teams

They could built on that and trade the other for better fit, especially good defender at SG/SF

He reminds me of Giannis without the PG skills. The scary thing is that his floor is Deandre Ayton which is not good.

He's a wealthy man's Gueye. Plenty of minutes at both back up 4-5 to begin with. If he eventually overtakes OO, we can take it from there.

CC is a goner whether they trade or let him walk. The frontcourt is now complete, young and talent across the board.

All I got to say is Hawks just lottoed into Alexandre Sarr. Vive la France with back to back unicorn BIGS #1 in the draft

Now just trade for a pick in the late teens and get Edey and go with

Edey / Sarr / JJ / DM / Trae

If we pick anyone other than Sarr it's a complete failure. He is everything this team needs. Long, athletic, defense, lob threat, and potential as a shooter to space the floor. He's only 19, get him on a weight lifting program and bulk up a bit and this dude will be a monster. I'm tired of having lane cloggers playing C. Everyone's efficiency will improve if we unclog the lane. Having a C that can space the floor will improve Trae's efficiency immensely.

Care to elaborate on the amount you've watched him play?
