Passing only: Jokic vs ATG centers

Post#1 » by lorak » Sat Feb 4, 2017 11:28 am

How many centers in history were as good passers as Jokic is? Walton, Marc or Wilt are obvious names, but I feel like Nikola might be even better than them.

Divac and Sabonis for sure, Shaq had moments of inspiration out of the double team but not consistent enough.
Noah is a good shout too.
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. But, in practice, there is.

Noah isn't close, actually.

In fact, I don't think any are better than Jokic.

I think only Sabonis, maybe Divac and Walton as well.

He reminds me a lot to Sabonis.

I'm not much high on newer players , like youngsters . But he's probably the best ever . Too many centers had great playmaking impacts on the court . But Jokic is different than all . He totally reached a level in passing/playmaking aspect , which is higher than anybody else in history as a center .

Yesterday was the first time I had ever seen Jokic for an extended period of time and the first thought thought when watching him was that he was the best passing center I had ever seen. Now granted I haven't seen a lot of Sabonis but yeah, Jokic is looking like an all time great passer already. He has the next level view of play development and cutters.

Wilt might have been better, but it's always hard to evaluate him. Sabas is up there, obviously, as well as Divac. Jokic is top 5 for sure, but based on pure ability, might be the GOAT. Of course he needs to do that for a long time to be considered as such.

I hate when people try and say that any player less than 2 seasons into his career is "the greatest ever" at anything and tend to think we're being prisoners of the moment. But that the idea isn't that absurd of a notion for a guy so young is a testament to how impressive he is. He's been phenomenal. I'll just leave it at that.

He's better than Divac from my memory of Divac. I never watched Walton. Sabonis was also very good passer as in elite passer regardless of position, but I think Jokic just sees the game at a level above those guys. I honestly, and I don't want to go there, but I will, I think Jokic has an eye for the game which brings to mind Magic and Bird. The guy makes passes which are not only technically incredible, but they're passes which happen before the guy is in place, he sees the game develop before it takes place.

Conclusion, I think Jokic is the greatest big man passer of all time and honestly in a few years, he might be in contention for among the top 20 best playmakers of all time regardless of position.

Divas already came out and said that Jokic is way better passer than him.
Maybe Sabonis, but Jokic is still only 21

I think you're way too fast to say this, as much as the potential is there.
Those guys had amazing vision themselves and did it in a time where there was less ball movement and less chance from a center to show all the different moves Jokic shows.

It's already enough to say that he's in the conversation.

Divac was not as creative a passer as Jokic in my memory. Sabonis was though.

any link?
I know that Divac said he will be better than him. Djordjevic said that he'll be as good as him if he keeps working.
Unlikely Vlade would say something like that at this point. It's not even good for Jokic himself.

I think you are remembering a different Divac.

I'm impressed a Nokia 3210 can access the internet.

I thought this thread was made by a clinically insane person before I saw it's from 2017 lol.
