I guess they just have to justify playing an elimination game against a 37 win team somehow. Yes, the refs are the reason why a 66 win team lost to a 37 win team 3 times on the road. Delirious I say.

WHat makes it so absurd is the complete opposite has been true.

These games have been called like a no name team facing Duke in Camden Indoor Stadium.

People look at the foul disparity but does not tell the story. The no calls on Boston on all those moving screens and loose ball fouls is probably the biggest joke of officiating I've ever seen.

Next to the charges by Paul Pierce including the play that injured Marvin Williams

The Hawks get more FTs because they are more aggressive. The Cs shoot more jumpers (more that twice as many) and the Hawks drive.

Smith vs. KG is a perfect example. Smith didn't have a great game on offense last night but when he had the ball inside he drove, he's too quick for KG and he forced the call. KG? The man is known for taking fadeaways and he took them last night IN CRUNCH TIME! Same goes for anyone being guarded by Ray Allen, he's a slow footed defender who takes jumpers. Horford and Pachulia have also been aggressive against the slower Boston frontcourt.

If the Celtics weren't so soft maybe they'd have more FTs...

If the Celtics win tomorow i'm pretty sure Lebron will have more free throw attempts then the whole Celtics team next series.

As the probably lone Celtics/Mavericks fan here, I already know how ultimate humiliation feels. BOS still has a huge advantage over the Mavs, because the Cs play the deciding game at home. But if the Hawks DO win that game, it would be way bigger than the GSW upset.

I am a Celtics fan so obviously that won't apply here. I tend to love rivalries and feel basketball lacks rivalries. Detroit and Atlanta will likely never be much of a rivalry. Detroit and Boston has huge potential, and their games have been worthy of a rivalry. It's funny because people loved Jordan's Bulls, so I think people only like upsets as far as it's teams they don't like.

The Boston Celtics didn't have anything to do with basketball's revival. This is a player's game, not a franchise's game. Do we forget Bird and Magic were already setting TV ratings records before they even set foot in the NBA? That National Championship game pulled a 24.1 rating and a 38 share. Still NCAA records.

It was an East Coast-West Coast rivalry with two contrasting styles and both teams being big market teams and having a rivalry already certainly helped. If it had been the Mavs and Hawks, would it have had the same impact? No way. I understand their rivalry was very popular before that, but that was basically a perfect rivalry. Who led the NBA in merchandise sales? The Celtics, Lakers, and Knicks. Is it any coincidence that the NBA has finally strived with the Celtics and Lakers on top even after the referee scandal? I don't think it's a coincidence. Rivalries are great, but they're even more special when it's a big market team.

There won't be much of a rivalry with Boston their window is too short for a rivalry . Ray Allen is almost done and when he is done ( 1-3 years MAX ) the other two will start to decline as well .

If the Boston guys were 3-4 years younger maybe there's a chance for a rivaly but they aren't

I'm glad everyone outside of New England has collectively banded together to hate the Celtics and Patriots. It's a fantastic feeling.

Let's see, I have seen my team lose the Super Bowl (granted they weren't 18-0 or even favored) and I realize before every season that my team has no chance to win an NBA Championship. I have to say the feeling isn't that fantastic.

I don't necessarily think it applies just to teams they don't like. I have nothing against the Mavs but seeing them lose last year was awesome. I think that, as long as it isn't their own team losing, people just like seeing the underdog win.
