Butler is the reason "Heat Culture" isn't just a joke. Before Jimmy saved that franchise, Pat had them on the treadmilliest of treadmills after LeBron left.

It's not that Lebron left, it's that Chris Bosh got sick. That was a max contract that wasn't playing for most of 2 years then never played again. Just sitting there taking up space and not being able to spend that money on decent players. No team can be successful that way.

No two sentence summary will capture all of the context, and I definitely phrased that in a very bombastic way...so you're certainly right to point out that it wasn't as simple as LeBron left and Pat just sat on his thumbs playing switch. But regardless of the specifics, "Heat Culture" was turning into a meme before Jimmy turned up and gave it new juice.

Jimmy desperately needed Miami, but Miami desperately needed Jimmy too...even if that time is now (or soon) coming to an end.

Agree with Riley here. Butlers comments were so not warranted.

I agree with Riley 100%. You are running your mouth from the bench in street clothes? Get out of here with that lol

If I'm the Heat, I'm not interested in spending, what, $56 million/year for a guy who shows up approximately 75% of the time, who missed the playoffs with yet another injury, and has a general reputation as a team killer when things don't go his way. There's just better ways to spend that kind of money.

Remember in a couple years they might be handing a near quarter-billion contract to Bam. Bam has a long future ahead of him with the Heat. Jimmy doesn't.

Maybe a sign-and-trade with Philly is the best thing to do. Jimmy's value has peaked - why not see if Jimmy/Embiid would work? (Didn't last time, even with peak Ben Simmons there, but who knows? Maybe between Embiid's regular season play and Jimmy's post-season play they might actually have something.)

Riley doesn't say this unless he knows Jimmy will be gone

Last time Pat ran his mouth, Lebron left. I know Jimmy isn't at the same level but he's your Franchise player....

Jimmy doesn't just get sent to his room, he takes his ball and goes home, tanking his trade value in the process

How overrated is Jimmy?

People over inflate his playoff performances. When he does well, Miami media sings songs about him.

When he doesn’t play, or play poorly, everyone gives him a pass.

He is not a franchise player. He is a top 20 player who doesn’t play enough.

What is with missing one out if every four games and bit actually having a real injury.

Although Riley found displeasure in what Jimmy said I'm sure Thibs probably got a boner. He's always had a man crush on Jimmy as his player, one of the various players he had log the most minutes per game in a season. He along side Philly would probably be takers if it ever got to that. Though it's not totally likely Riley deals him to a rival in the East. Could very well end in fluff and Jimmy re-signs and retires Miami. All are possible scenarios imo.

hugepatsfan wrote:Jimmy Butler has played 64 playoff games with the Heat. In 20 of them, he's shot 40% from the floor or worse. He's missed 7 games as well. The Heat don't have the same target on their back from the media that other deep playoff teams do. Jimmy gets to have his whole reputation defined by his highest highs but the game by game shows someone who just isn't the caliber of player many make him out to be. He isn't consistent as an offensive player. Game in and game out you cannot rely on him to be your go-to offensive player. Not at a championship level.

The line about an extension for someone who is "available every single night" is truer than I think a lot realize. Between the injuries and inconsistencies, it's hard to justify making him a true supermax player. Heat don't likely have the assets to go get the true #1 offensive player Butler needs to play with and at his age, it becomes harder to write off a max contract as just the cost of doing business the way you can for a younger player who might not truly deserve a supermax but you know that's what it takes to keep him.

Butler set himself up perfectly in his Miami tenture. Purposely coast in the regular season to get a lower seeding so theirs no expectations. That way if he has a big game their’s the stupid comparisons to MJ but if he plays poorly (which happens quite a lot) he cops no blame because “they weren’t supposed to make it this far”. It takes the pressure right off him which other stars/superstars don’t have the luxury off. People seem to forget that this Heat squad was the #1 seed only 2 years ago.

It’s evident in each Celtics/Heat series when everyone says Butler is better than Tatum yet Tatum’s held to higher standards & waxed if he has a poor game & Butler isn’t.

Jimmy had a terrible season where he was coasting and didnt help the Heat do anything but win a couple of games at the end of the regular season, he has to take some accountability and, like Riley said, keep his mouth shut.
