I would never offer player options but team options. If they don't like it.....leave.

That includes my Joel.

The player option isn’t what killing them, it’s just one more year. The guaranteed aspect is what hurts them and the inability to replace him. Being screwed for 2 1/2 years or 3 1/2 isn’t that big of a difference.

The NBA will eventually have to deal with these "guaranteed" contracts for these kind of injury-prone players. Next CBA perhaps.

Both Ball boys are damaged goods. They swindled nba teams for hundreds of millions of dollars while barely playing, Lavar is a genius.

Just...you know, both agent/player and ownership group/team agreed to this contract and signed that dotted line years ago. It's the players' legal right to receive it and the paying team's responsibility to fulfill it. I get the sentiment, but yeah, this business was sealed years ago. Sports ownership...high risk, high reward. sometimes it doesn't work out right

No reason to be embarrassed. That would be like getting hurt on the job and feeling guilty about getting workers compensation.

Basically a 20 million expiring contract that the Bulls have handy to make a trade.

This isn't a typical business deal. This is a business deal that the entire city of Chicago probably has an opinion about. I would definitely be aware of all of that.

Isn’t he half a season away from being half a season away to entertain when he is coming back?

How many guys have had career ending injuries recently? its not that common. This is pretty rare.

No GM likes to give that, but in negotiations, you need to submit sometimes. Can come back and bite you, but other option can too. Jalen Brunson has player option, imagine you are Knicks and you put your foot down and Brunson walks away...

Knicks hired his pop to be an assistant, so they have all the leverage and if push comes to shove, they can even play hard ball by threatening to fire Rick if his boy doesn't sign the generous no player option max contract.

I doubt Brunson even asks for that option, tbh.

That is the karmic price of having Jordan healthy (sans the ankle) for his career. You must pay the basketball gods. Is the debt paid in full? I doubt it.

Yeah, he was with LiAngelo and his son. He feels bummed that he has no niece to celebrate with :(

Teams know the risks. People act like only one party signed on the dotted line. Eliminating guaranteed contracts in these situations is one of the worst ideas I've ever heard. He got hurt playing basketball for the team, got hurt again(and again) rehabbing to play basketball for the team. He didn't crash his motorbike or smash into a tree snowboarding, and even then, that would only matter if both parties had agreed that those activities violated the terms of the contract they both signed.

He would've needed to do it a year ago and I'm not sure you can medically retire and still pick up an option.

Think we see like 7-8 minutes in 3-4 games next season where he looks like he doesnt have the health to play in NBA anymore. And thus will end the Lonzo Ball Bulls - with something like 40 games played out of 250ish games possible.

Lavar played a role in turning them into damaged goods with those awful BBB shoes.

It’s a slap in the face of actual durable players that guys like Lonzo make so much $$ for doing nothing.

Imagine how Mikal Bridges feels for example lol
