Can anyone remember a bigger coaching meltdown than Thibs in game 5?

Post#1 » by Marvin Martian » Wed May 1, 2024 2:27 am

I certainly cannot.

Didn't foul and let a red hot Maxey get a wide open 3 when PHI had no TOs to play the foul game.

Didn't call TO after the 3, when the offense started to get bogged down with Brunson ball

Made 0 adjustments after the 4th

Overplayed his starters

Now he is going to PHI with a tired team and no momentum after a bad game from Embiid. They are set up to lose game 6 and can very well lose game 7.

And that is why most players do not like playing for him.

I predict they will win game 6 on the road, actually.
Guess we'll see, but criticizing him for not making adjustments "after the 4th" is weird to me. How many adjustments do you think there are? Coaches generally use all of them to try to win in regulation.

Yes, Last night Darvin Ham just standing there frozen not calling a timeout when everyone on the telecast and at home is shocked it’s taking so long.

Guy probably too scared to show he doesn’t know what to say in the huddle other than pep talk.

To be fair Maxey had to hit a logo 3 just to keep the game going.

A better coach would not have given him those opportunities.

It's like the NBA isn't known for a single player completely taking over a game.

If they hit their free throws, Sixers season is done. That was pretty miracle win, I don’t know if I would blame a coach for it.

A better coach would focus more on not giving opportunities to that single player who will take over a game.

Double him maybe? Let Embiid get his 3 pt shot or better yet, an Oubre?

Two chances too not just the last one. Dumb Thibs is dumb.

That's an easy answer: every Doc Rivers performance since 2009.

And just so you know, the Knicks still have what it takes to win this series— i must win by series bet LOL.

But dumb is dumb so we call it as it is.

I really don’t understand the timeout thing. I know it works in certain situations like in Denver last light. The Knicks don’t have Joker next to Brunson though.

Copy. Coach should stop player taking over game. Coaching in the NBA is simple.

It wasn't a miracle win, it was a historic choke by Thibs.

An average coach would have put this game away. Instead, they are going to PHI tired and ready to lose game 6

Yes, major collapse like this you blame everyone. Especially the coach.

The good news for the Knicks is… they can still recover from this, and with two chances to close it out.

Yup. Simple instrcutions would have done it, but coaches are not perfect and that’s okay. Dumb plays happen.
