No, you're functionally wrong about this. Yao's footwork wasn't better, his hooks weren't better, his left hand wasn't as developed and even with his height and jumper, he didn't finish at a higher rate. Like, it's technically inaccurate to suggest his skillset was better than Jokic's, and that's before you even begin considering the impact the threat of Jokic's passing had on his scoring game, let alone the profound difference in their jump shooting ability.
Yao would be unstoppable in today's league
He sure would be stoppable.
Yao's defenders:
Ben Wallace
Alonzo Mourning
Garnett
David Robinson
Tim Duncan
Jokic Defenders:
Gobert
KAT
AD
Chet
Zubac
Quite a difference in defense they faced
Yao Ming would destroy every single of Jokic's current defenders. The problem is Jokic wouldn't be dominating Yao's Defenders.
Jokic would absolutely dominate the guys who guarded Yao. Do you even watch Jokic play?
Jokic doesn’t get fooled into 1v1 matchups, that’s not to say he can’t take an elite defender 1v1, but he’s going to be hunting for the best opportunity for his team to score.
If you put an all time defender like Ben Wallace, Tim Duncan, etc on him, he’s going to operate out of the high post, and drag his man out of the paint and orchestrate the offense. He’s an absolute nightmare matchup due to his size/passing/shooting combination.
Look what he does against Anthony Davis. Davis is one of the best all around defensive guys today and Jokic takes his lunch with ease.
