Want to help save the Sonics?

Post#1 » by wiff » Thu Jan 24, 2008 10:01 pm

A few year back a group of Sonics fans including myself got together and put in money for an Airplane banner to fly above Key Arena to express our distaste for the former GM Wally Walker.

Here is our handy work.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6060014589875809566

Over all we were please with our success.

Since then as you all know the Sonics have been sold to Clay Bennett and he wants to move the team.

Thing is Clay won't have a sit down to try to work things out with the City. He claims his office door is open to conversation, but there is no one in the office. He won't return calls to the organization called SAVE OUR SONICS. I think that tells you his motivation.

He basically demanded a state of the art arena or he was going to move the team. He is not open to any sort of middle ground. Like a new lease or a possible remodel of Key Arena.

I guess 41 years of support doesn't mean much because now Clay claims the fans don't care, after he has done everything he can to put out a product that simply isn't very competitive today, but it is set up to be very good in three years.

Anyway bottom line is that the fans in Seattle do care about the Sonics. But like any team in any city if you are in close to the cellar fans are a little less gung ho. Before this season fans filled more than 90% of Key arena every year, and yes we have be bad for a while.

But that doesn't mean we want the team to up and leave.

So we the fans are once again putting together funds to fly a banner.

This time our goal is to fly the banner above New Orleans Arena before the Rookie vs Sophmore game during All-Star weekend, so that league will know that the fans do care.

We are trying to get this point across to owners who will have a say in the Sonics possible move. If the owners vote no Sonics stay.

So if anyone else thinks the Sonic fans are getting the shaft and would like to be part of the Sonics staying in Seattle we have a paypal account set up so if you are incline to donate a few bucks it will go to the Airplane Banner.

Every dollar helps! Also if anyone in here has any sort of contacts with the media in New Orleans (obviously our goal is to get this banner on TV) we would really appreciate the help.

Here's the paypal account.

Stay Sonics! Best of luck on the rest of the season.

Man, I have a lot of respect for what you are doing. I'm not a big baller, but i'll see if I can donate a couple of dollars to help out. :)

Same.

I do really feel sorry for Seattle, though, considering it's not even that bad of a sports city (actually really good...)

My guess is that even if the Sonics leave to Oklahoma City, Seattle will eventually get a new NBA franchise...

And I guess I'll donate a couple of dollars. I'm kind of broke right now, but it's for a good cause.

I already said I was in. However I don't know if a final message has been decided upon. Stop Clay: Sonics Should Stay! was my favorite.

Money in
"That's why the last two years weren't guaranteed," Walsh said. "Either way, he knew it could have happened either way."

Stern said if the Sonics leave Seattle, Seattle would not get another team ever. I am almost positive i heard that.

Yeah Stern did say that Seattle would not be getting another NBA team.

There has been speculation about getting an expansion team and possibly the Hornets. But quite franky I don't want any other team. I'd hate to see New Orleans lose their franchise due to Katrina and I don't want an expansion franchise.

The Sonics have been here for 41 years with tons of support. Even when the Sonics were bad the fans still came out. And now we are getting the rug pulled out from underneath us. It stinks.

Thanks for the donation Vindicater.

I need to pass this on that was relayed to me.

Go Sonics Fans!

Actually I need to make mention of one thing: FOLKS: PLEASE - get a PayPal account, fund it with money, and then do a PayPal Transfer. INSTEAD OF A DEBIT/CREDIT TRANSFER. PLEASE.
THANK YOU.

There's 3 main reasons:
1) They won't let me accept enough $$ for this effort via debit/credit
2) We lose 5% when you use debit/credit
3) I can only accept 5 debit/credit transfers per year. That means only 3 more until Jan 2009.

Thanks!

Hopefuly this isn't a hurdle for anyone who wants to donate to the cause.

Ok so far we have about $350 bucks in the paypal account but more money pledged to come in.

It costs $850 for one hour, $1150 for two hours. We are shooting for the 2 hours.

Thanks again to whoever has pledged/donated.

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who donated money to the cause. We have plenty of money for the banner and have hired the pilot and plane.

Keep an eye out on Saturday Feb 16th before the All-Star events gets going.

Hopefully they will mention it before the 3pt shoot out, Dunk Comp and skill comp.

Again thanks to all who feel the cause is a worthy one.
